Highlights strong connection of Gandhi family with constituency, attacks PM for being ‘anti-poor’
Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has reached Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh where he is campaigning for Congress candidate and former party president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha elections.
Raebareli is the traditional seat of the Gandhi family and was represented in the outgoing Lok Sabha by Sonia Gandhi.
As Sonia has taken the Rajya Sabha route via Rajasthan to enter Parliament, the Congress has fielded Rahul from the seat even as he is also contesting from Wayanad in Kerala.
On reaching Raebareli, Congress workers gave a warm welcome to Mukesh Agnihotri, who participated in a public relations campaign in support of Rahul.
Addressing gatherings, Mukesh said the aim of the Congress was to bring about development, provide employment and bring prosperity. “It is our pledge to end dictatorship. The Gandhi family has a close relationship with Raebareli and Rahul Gandhi will further strengthen this bond. The people of the constituency blessed Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and now it’s the turn of Rahul Gandhi,” said Agnihotri.
Highlighting the contribution of the Gandhis, the Deputy Chief Minister recalled how Sonia had represented the seat for a long time and brought about record development in Raebareli. “Sonia Gandhi represented Raebareli for a long time but never aspired for the post, got development done and even gave up the post of Prime Minister.
Rahul Gandhi is fighting against dictatorship and is carrying forward his struggle in the interest of the country without any greed for any post. Rahul Gandhi has travelled 4,000 km on foot to express his gratitude to the people of India and to understand the pain and suffering of the people,” he said.
Agnihotri alleged that on the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not dare to walk even a few steps among people. He alleged that the Prime Minister had enriched only a chosen few capitalists, without caring for the poor. “The poor have been made poorer while the condition of the country has worsened. The Indian rupee has weakened. The promised employment to 2 crore youth is nowhere to be seen,” he said.
