The Congress high command is learnt to have cleared the names of 35 candidates for the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, scheduled towards the end of the year.
In New Delhi on Tuesday, the Congress central election committee, which med under party president Sonia Gandhi, brainstormed on 46 of the 68 Assembly seats.
The consensus reportedly could not be reached in 11 of the 46 seats while the 35 were reportedly finalised. The meeting that started at 10.30 am went on till 3.00 pm. Now, the screening committee will meet again in the first week of October for the selection of candidates for the remaining 33 seats.
After forming a consensus in the meeting, the names will be sent to the central election committee for final approval. At the meeting held on Tuesday, it was decided to re-nominate the present 20 MLAs. Apart from this, it has been agreed to give the ticket to three former ministers Kaul Singh Thakur from Drang, Chander Kumar from Jawali and Prakash Chaudhary from Balh.
