In a recent statement, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhhu strongly criticized the energy policies of the previous government, led by Jai Ram Thakur. He alleged that the previous government had signed MoUs in the energy sector during investor meets, compromising the interests of Himachal Pradesh. He pointed out that the agreements signed would not benefit future generations.
Sukhhu also highlighted changes made in public sector undertakings, particularly with SJVNL, where royalty clauses were removed. He mentioned specific projects like Sainj, Luhri, Dhaulasiddh, and Sunni, stating that even the conditions for Himachal Pradesh to regain these projects after 40 years were removed.Regarding the opposition’s criticism of closing institutions, Sukhhu stated that the previous government had haphazardly opened institutions without proper staff and infrastructure.
He assured that the current government would reopen institutions as needed after careful consideration of requirements. In response, Jai Ram Thakur, the opposition leader, criticized Sukhhu’s language used in the legislative assembly and accused the Congress government of selling Himachal’s interests. Thakur asserted that the BJP had not betrayed the state but called the Congress government a “mahathag” (great betrayer).
Thakur defended the institutions opened during his tenure, emphasizing that they were established in response to public demands. He questioned why many institutions in Himachal Pradesh were non-functional for months, with officials sitting idle, before the decision to close them was taken..
