Himachal CM Sukhu’s Rs 600 crore Diwali bonanza for employees, pensioners: 4% DA hike, payment of medical bills, arrears

Diwali bonanza

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced 4 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for about 1.80 lakh government employees and and 1.70 lakh pensioners from January 1, 2023, onwards, leading to an extra burden of Rs 600 crore per year on the state exchequer.

In addition to this, the Chief Minister announced that the employees and pensioners will receive their November salary and pension on October 28, days ahead of Diwali.

He said this while addressing media persons in Shimla last night. The Chief Minister also announced to clear all the pending medical bills of employees and retirees for which a provision of Rs 10 crore had already been made.

He directed the departments concerned to clear all the pending medical bills this month and adequate budget would be provided to the departments for this as per their demand.

He also announced to pay the entire full amount of pending arrears to all the pensioners above 75 years of age.

He said that a total of Rs 202 crore would be spent in this financial year over the salary and pension arrears.

He also announced that an additional installment of arrear amounting to Rs 20,000 for class-IV employees will be released in this fiscal itself.

Himachal Pradesh will be self-reliant by 2027 and there was no such financial crunch as being propagated in the media by the national and state BJP leaders, he maintained, taking a jibe at Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur for allegedly spreading lies about the financial status of the state and even misleading Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda.

CM Sukhu maintained that the BJP had left no stone unturned in spreading misinformation about the state’s fiscal health. “The payment of pending dues of employees, including DA and arrears, are a testimony to the fact that the state government is committed to address their grievances and there is no such financial crunch as of now,” he said.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil, Shimla MLA Harish Janartha, media adviser to the Chief Minister Naresh Chauhan, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary of Finance Devesh Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar and Director of IPR Rajiv Kumar, among others.
