Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said that MLAs who were “sellable” had left the Congress, and that now only honest leaders would be elected on the party’s ticket.
Talking to the media at Gaggal airport in Kangra before departing for his home constituency Nadaun, he accused the BJP of fielding allegedly sellable MLAs in the byelections.
He claimed that the remaining MLAs in the state adhered to the state’s culture and Congress ideology.
The Chief Minister said that the names of candidates for the June 1 byelections to six Assembly seats had been finalised. He said the list would be ratified by the Congress central election committee during its meeting this week.
Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated his allegation that the six disqualified Congress MLAs took Rs 15 crore each for cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha election, and that the “racket mastermind” charged a much-higher amount.
Sukhu outlined the government’s achievements over the past 15 months, emphasising public service and various initiatives undertaken for public welfare.
He mentioned the crackdown on corruption, overcoming economic challenges and implementing schemes such as Old Pension Scheme, free education for children of widows, enhanced health facilities for the elderly and increased daily wages under MNREGA.
“Himachal has become the first state in the country to give minimum support price on milk and natural farming. The Congress will go to the people’s court in the coming elections on account of its 15-months performance,” he said.
Regarding defamation notices and FIRs against him by Congress turncoats Sudhir Sharma and Rajinder Rana, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that legal action would be taken based on evidence, not mere allegations, and assured that Congress had factual evidence to support its stance.
