SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an aerial inspection of the rain-battered areas in Mandi and Kullu districts on Tuesday (July 11, 2023).
Due to landslides and flashfloods triggered by torrential rains, the state government has estimated a loss of Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore.
Although this is only an initial assessment, Chief Minister Sukhu has formed a committee under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi to assess the damage. The Himachal Pradesh government has demanded that the central government declare the devastation in the state a national calamity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi rang up the Chief Minister on Tuesday to take stock of the situation and assured Sukhu of all possible help. Sukhu has demanded that apart from declaring the devastation a national calamity, the Centre must extend a special financial package to take up rescue and restoration works on an urgent basis.
