DHARAMSHALA: A meeting of the Himachal Pradesh cabinet is to be held in Shimla on Monday (January 1, 2024) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and decisions on several key matters are expected to be taken.
The cabinet could decide on opening employment avenues as well as working towards fulfilling three guarantees promised by the Congress during the Assembly elections. These include the purchase of cow and buffalo milk at Rs 80 and Rs 100, cow dung at the rate of Rs 2 per kg and a financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to women. If approved, these measures are expected to provide significant relief to the citizens.
Furthermore, the cabinet is likely to grant approval for releasing the pending 4 per cent dearness allowance (DA) to state employees. The meeting could also see the allocation of portfolios to newly sworn-in ministers Rajesh Dharmani and Yadvinder Goma, who are yet to receive berths.
The opposition BJP had laid siege during the winter session in Tapovan demanding the fulfilment of the election guarantees by the Congress. The Chief Minister has then said that all the guarantees would be fulfilled over the five years of Congress rule.
Addressing the pressing issue of unemployment, decisions are expected on filling thousands of vacant posts across various departments. Chief Minister Sukhu, during the winter session at Tapovan in Dharamshala, had committed to filling 20,000 posts in the ongoing financial year.
Despite the Sunday holiday, Chief Minister Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan and Yadvinder Goma, along with several officials, were present at the state secretariat.
