Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has convened a crucial cabinet meeting on Sunday (August 25, 2025) ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of the state Assembly.
The meeting is expected to focus on several significant issues, including the discussion of various bills that are proposed to be presented during the session.

As soon as the date for the cabinet meeting was finalised, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena directed all departmental secretaries and heads of departments to submit their respective agendas for consideration. Among the topics likely to be discussed are the long-pending dearness allowance (DA) and arrears for government employees and pensioners, which have been a major point of concern for the state workforce.

In addition to financial matters, the cabinet is anticipated to address the pressing need for a relief package to support families affected by recent natural disasters. The monsoon season has wreaked havoc across the state, with 133 houses completely destroyed. A particularly devastating cloudburst on the night of July 31 resulted in heavy rains and floods, leaving 55 persons missing, 30 of whom are still unaccounted for. The flashflood completely washed away the village of Samej in Rampur, and the cabinet is expected to announce a special package for those severely affected by the floods.

The meeting may also see the approval of new recruitment initiatives in various government departments, aiming to address the ongoing employment concerns in the state.
Furthermore, the cabinet is expected to strategise on how to respond to anticipated attacks from the opposition during the monsoon session, which is scheduled to commence by August 27. The session is likely to be contentious, with the opposition poised to challenge the government on multiple fronts.

Due to his packed schedule, Chief Minister Sukhu, who traditionally meets the public every Friday to listen to their grievances, will not be able to hold his usual public meetings this week.
