Himachal byelections tomorrow, 10,358 litres of liquor among seizures during poll code

Campaigning for the byelections to three Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh has officially concluded, with voters set to cast their ballot in Nalagarh, Hamirpur and Dehra on Wednesday (July 10, 2024).

A total of 2,59,340 voters are eligible to participate in this crucial byelection. Nalagarh leads with the highest number of voters at 94,755, followed by Dehra with 86,520 voters and Hamirpur at 78,065.

The Election Department has established 315 polling stations across the three constituencies to facilitate smooth voting. Nalagarh will have 121 polling stations, Dehra 100 and Hamirpur 94. All preparations at these stations are complete, with polling officers already deployed to their respective centres. Security arrangements have been meticulously planned to ensure a peaceful voting process.

A total of 13 candidates are contesting across the three Assembly seats in this byelection, the results of which will be declared on July 13. On Monday, 217 polling parties were dispatched to the polling stations: 119 to Nalagarh and 98 to Dehra, with 94 polling parties scheduled to leave for Hamirpur on Tuesday.

In compliance with the model code of conduct, which has been in effect since June 10, authorities have intensified their vigilance. Police, Excise and other related departments have seized illegal liquor, cash and jewellery worth Rs 3.31 crore. This includes 10,358 litres of liquor valued at Rs 14.12 lakh, jewellery worth Rs 2.13 crore and cash amounting to Rs 93.66 lakh. The voting will take place on Wednesday and the election results will determine the new representatives for Nalagarh, Hamirpur and Dehra.
