The election noise will come to a halt on Monday (July 8, 2024) evening as the campaign for the byelections in Nalagarh, Hamirpur and Dehra Assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh will conclude.
Political parties will be restricted from holding public meetings after 5 pm, though door-to-door campaigning will continue. The Election Department has finalised preparations for the byelections scheduled for July 10 in the three Assembly constituencies.
Voting will take place on Wednesday at 315 polling stations across the three constituencies from 7 am to 6 pm. Those in line at polling stations by 6 pm will still be allowed to cast their vote. The Election Department has set up 100 polling stations in Dehra, 94 in Hamirpur and 121 in Nalagarh.
A total of 2,59,340 voters are registered to participate in these byelections, as per the voter lists released on June 21, 2024. Nalagarh has the highest number of registered voters at 94,755, followed by 86,520 voters in Dehra and 78,065 voters in Hamirpur.
The byelections have been necessitated following the resignation of Independent MLAs Hoshyar Singh (Dehra), KL Sharma (Nalagarh) and Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur). The Dehra seat is the most watched out as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur is fighting her maiden election on the ticket.
