BJP MLA from Churah in Chamba and former Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Hansraj, finds himself embroiled in a serious controversy as allegations of engaging in an obscene chat with a young woman have surfaced.

The victim, who is reportedly the daughter of a local BJP booth president, lodged a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chamba, leading to the registration of an FIR at the district’s women police station.

The 20-year-old complainant has accused the MLA of repeatedly making inappropriate advances, including demanding nude pictures over chat and using derogatory language. The victim’s complaint details her distress, stating that the MLA’s behaviour has been ongoing for some time. She alleges that whenever she approached Hansraj for any work-related issues, he would respond with inappropriate requests, pressuring her to meet him in person under dubious pretexts.

In her complaint, the young woman also expressed grave concerns for her safety and that of her family, alleging that the MLA and his associates have threatened her. She alleged that they have even gone as far as to break one of her phones in an attempt to destroy evidence of the incriminating chats.

The victim has pleaded with the authorities for protection and justice, highlighting the irony of the situation where leaders who publicly endorse initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” are themselves accused of such misconduct. “I am pleading with folded hands for justice,” she stated, underscoring her fear and frustration over the ordeal.

In response to the complaint, the Chamba police have registered an FIR against Hansraj under Sections 75 and 351(2) of the BNS. The case was officially filed on August 9 and an investigation is currently underway.
