MANDI: The Himachal Ayurvedic Medical Officers Association (HAMOA) has announced that its members are wearing black badges in protest against the recent shocking incident at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.

The decision was reached unanimously by the association’s members as a sign of solidarity and condemnation of the brutal crime. The incident in question involved the rape and murder of a female resident doctor at the college, a crime that has sent shockwaves across the nation.

HAMOA has expressed deep concern over the safety of medical professionals, calling the incident not only a grievous insult to the doctor but also a stark reminder of the unsafe working conditions faced by those in the medical field.

In a statement, HAMOA emphasised that this tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved security measures for doctors and healthcare staff. “Doctors are being forced to work in environments where their safety is not assured, despite their dedication and the crucial nature of their work,” the statement said.

The association has called for justice for the victim and urged the authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible. HAMOA’s decision to wear black badges serves as a symbolic protest, aiming to draw attention to the broader issues of safety and respect for medical professionals.

“We appeal to the administration to ensure that the culprits receive the strictest possible punishment and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future,” said Dr Sanjay Kumar Guleria, HAMOA president. He further stressed the need for immediate government intervention to protect the rights and lives of healthcare workers.
