DHARAMSHALA: As temperatures soar across Himachal Pradesh, health concerns are mounting with several summer-related illnesses on the rise. Kangra district, in particular, has reported an increase in cases of heat-related ailments, including heatstroke, dehydration and sunburn.
According to Dr Rajesh Kumar Sood, the District Health Officer, Kangra has recorded 36 cases of heatstroke so far this season.
“Fortunately, all cases have been mild, with no reported fatalities. Awareness and taking precautionary measures during the summer months is very important as there are several risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures,” emphasized Dr Sood.
In addition to heatstroke, common summer ailments such as conjunctivitis, jaundice and diarrhoea too were on the rise, Dr Sood stated. He urged the public to prioritise staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours and consuming fresh food to mitigate health risks.
Dr Sood also addressed the seasonal increase in snakebites, cautioning against local remedies and advising prompt medical attention at hospitals for proper treatment.
He said to cater to the growing health concerns, the health department has established dedicated heatstroke treatment rooms in various government hospitals across Kangra district.
“These facilities are aimed at providing swift medical assistance to those affected by heat-related illnesses,” he said.
