Himachal Pradesh’s 2014 batch IAS officer Ashutosh Garg has been assigned a significant role in the central government.
The Central Personnel Department has appointed Garg as the personal secretary to Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
The appointment was officially announced by Deputy Secretary Pooja Jain late in the evening.
Ashutosh Garg, who is currently serving as the Special Secretary for the Personnel and Finance Department in the Himachal Government, has an impressive track record. He previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, a position he held until his transfer prior to last year’s Lok Sabha elections.
In his new role, Garg will be stationed in Delhi for a tenure of five years. This appointment marks a continuation of trust placed in Himachal IAS officers by Jagat Prakash Nadda. In 2014, upon becoming the Union Minister, Nadda had similarly appointed IAS officer Ritesh Chauhan from Himachal as his personal secretary.
The decision to appoint Garg reflects Nadda’s continued confidence in the capabilities of Himachal’s IAS cadre, said an official.
