Gurjar Community Challenges ST Status for Hati Tribe in High Court

High-Court

The Newz Radar

Shimla: In a noteworthy development, the Gurjar community in Sirmaur district has filed a petition in the High Court opposing the conferment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Hati tribe. Disagreeing with the decision of the Central government, members of the Gurjar community brought their concerns to the court today. The High Court has issued notices to the Central government and other relevant parties, scheduling a hearing for December 18.

The Gurjar community argues that the criteria for granting ST status to the Hati tribe do not align with educational, economic backwardness, and ethnic group parameters. They contend that extending ST status to the Hati tribe appears to be a politically influenced decision, with individuals of considerable affluence included in the community.

Senior advocate Rajneesh Maniktala, representing the Gurjar community in the case, stated that the petition challenges the decision to grant ST status to the Hati tribe. The High Court has issued notices to the Central government, the Himachal Pradesh government, and other concerned parties. The hearing for this case is scheduled for December 18.

It’s noteworthy that earlier, members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) category associated with the Giripar Rights Committee had also filed a petition against the ST status for the Hati tribe. The High Court, in response, has issued notices to the relevant parties in this matter as well.
