Possibility may be discussed in Shimla civic body meeting on July 1
The Newz Radar, Shimla
Taking a cue from Manali, where tourists must pay a green fee to enter the tourist town, the Shimla Municipal Corporation may follow suit.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is believed to have held a discussion with the civic body authorities concerned in this regard recently.
The possibility of the civic body seriously taking this issue up for discussion is not being ruled out in the corridors of power.
Shimla Mayor Surendra Chauhan said that the Congress corporator, R R Verma, has put up this proposal. He hinted that this issue may be taken up for discussion in the municipal meeting scheduled on July 1.
Chauhan said that there is a need to augment the revenue of Shimla MC and making tourists pay a green fee appears to be one of the options. He added that local residents would be exempt and Himachalis travelling in vehicles registered in other states would be granted relief through consulting counsellor.
However, it is not yet known how much green fees would be imposed on tourists.
