Dharamshala: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged historians to continue studying and researching the history and folk culture of Himachal Pradesh. He made these remarks today at the inauguration of a two-day national conference sponsored by the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, at the Himachal Pradesh Central University in Dharamshala.
The Governor emphasized that the religious sites in Himachal Pradesh bear witness to numerous historical events and rich cultural heritage, which should be thoroughly studied to document the state’s vibrant cultural history for future generations to understand and appreciate.
Addressing the occasion, keynote speaker Dr. Balmukund Pandey highlighted how the changing circumstances in the country are leading to a renewed interest in the glorious history of India.
Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal, the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University, noted that the university is continuously achieving new milestones. He also emphasized the significance of being recognized as a Central University by the Government of India.
Historians like Prof. Sushmita Pandey and other scholars also shared their insights during the event.
Additionally, the occasion witnessed the launch of various publications, including newsletters from the university’s history department, a poetry collection by Dr. Priya, and the unveiling of the book “Nuala,” authored by research scholar Bharat Singh, based on the folk culture of Himachal Pradesh.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Chancellor Prof. Pradeep Kumar, Registrar Prof. Suman Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri, and other esteemed individuals.
