High drama was witnessed in hot seat Dehra in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (July 9, 2024) on the eve of the Assembly byelection as BJP candidate Hoshyar Singh accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, whose wife Kamlesh Thakur is the Congress candidate from the seat in her maiden election, of snooping on him.

Two-term former Independent MLA Hoshyar Singh shot a video of an incident where he caught hold of three persons, who he claimed were police personnel in civvies, allegedly chasing him for the past three days. In the video, which has gone viral on social media, Hoshyar is purportedly heard asking the trio as to on whose orders they were following him.

As the “police personnel” fail to give a satisfactory reply, a perplexed and angry Hoshyar Singh is heard asking them “do you have weapons”. “‘Goli maar dunga’ (will shoot you),” Hoshyar Singh says next as he takes a round of the vehicle in which the trio were travelling. “Ye hai Sukhu sarkaar… do din se mere peeche ghum rahe hain… See, it’s a car without number,” says the BJP leader as he asks all seated inside the Maruti Ertiga, including its driver, to step out. The car, however, had a taxi registration number (HP01DA****).

“‘Hathiyaar hai aapke paas?’ (do you have arms),” the former MLA asks again as one the three personnel make Hoshyar Singh speak to someone (probably his senior) on the phone. The BJP leader angrily snubs the person on the other side of the phone, asking why was the car chasing him. The reply comes “it’s a routine patrol”, to which Hoshyar Singh retorts that a “patrol didn’t mean chasing the BJP candidate”. “Goli maar dunga… ye hai Sukhu sarkaar… mere paas MHA ki security… ye hai Sukhu sarkaar… mere piche civil mein bheje hain aadmi… chaplon mein…. Dress mein bhejo agar bhejne hai to,” the angry politician says next as he snaps at the person on the phone, saying it’s unjustified on the part of the police to do that.
