SHIMLA: A fresh western disturbance, though feeble, is likely to affect the weather pattern in the western Himalayan region, including Himachal Pradesh, from December 11 onwards and may cause rain on December 12.
In its forecast three days ago, the Shimla Meteorological Centre had predicted light rain in the middle and high hills on December 11 and 12. Incidentally, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government of Himachal Pradesh has scheduled a major rally at the Police Ground in Dharamshala on December 11 to celebrate the completion of its one year in power.
According to the Meteorological Centre’s latest forecast, light rain and snowfall are expected at isolated places in the middle and high hills of Himachal on December 12.
The Meteorological Department, in its forecast on Thursday (December 7), said dry weather was expected in the state for the next four days till December 10. “A fresh feeble western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from December 11. The western disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 71°E to the north of latitude 34°N has moved away northeastwards,” the department said in a statement.
The Himachal Congress government has set a target of gathering a crowd of more than 30,000 for the rally, which party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, among others, are expected to attend.
