For the first time since the rebellion by six Congress MLAs plunged the Himachal Pradesh politics into turmoil, disqualified legislator from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma has attacked PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, albeit without explicitly mentioning his name.
So far, the disqualified rebel MLAs, mainly Sudhir and Rajinder Rana, had been attacking only Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu through their posts on social media, condemning his way of functioning and the way he had “ignored” ruling party MLAs.
In a post on Facebook, Sudhir, who was Urban Development Minister in the government headed by Vikramaditya’s father six-term Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, said that “those once with us now targeting intel agencies’
Subtly hinting at the shifting allegiances of certain individuals, Sudhir wrote, “Those who were with us are now taking a jibe at the agencies.” Chief Minister Sukhu and Vikramaditya shared a platform in Solan district on Sunday where the PWD Minister questioned the “failure of intelligence agencies within his own government in intimating about attempts to topple the ruling regime”. He had called for action against implicated police officers.
Vikramaditya went on to draw a metaphorical comparison, saying, “Just as Goddess Sita passed the test of fire, similarly the Chief Minister will also pass this test and move ahead.”
Sudhir expressed his discontent with Vikramaditya’s statements, signalling a growing rift within the state Congress. Vikramaditya had previously advocated for rebel MLAs alongside his mother and Congress state president Pratibha Singh, but appears to have shifted his stance now. Despite initially opposing the disqualification of rebel MLAs and advocating for their cause with the high command, he now appears aligned with the ruling government.
The six rebel Congress MLAs and three independent legislators have been putting up at a luxury hotel in Rishikesh under the protection of the CRPF. Sudhir and Rana have been using social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to launch counterattacks against Chief Minister Sukhu and now indirectly against Vikramaditya.
