Shimla: Aspiring candidates for the special police constable recruitment in Himachal Pradesh will now face negative marking in the written examination, as per a new guideline issued by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.

In this competitive recruitment process, 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer and even failing to answer a question will result in negative marking. However, candidates will not be penalised if none of the four given options are correct and they choose the fifth option provided.

The written exam, carrying 90 marks and scheduled for two hours, will only be open to those candidates who successfully pass the physical test conducted by the Police Department. The examination will be managed by the Public Service Commission.

Candidates will also be awarded additional marks based on physical height, ranging from 1 to 6 marks, and 4 marks for holding an NCC certificate.
Selected candidates will undergo a rigorous nine-month special commando course at PTC-Deroh. Failure to pass this training will result in dismissal from the recruitment process.

The recruitment is open to Himachali youths who have passed either the 10th or 12th grade. However, candidates from the handicapped category will not be eligible. General category male applicants must pay a fee of Rs 600, while reserved category males will be charged Rs 150.

The physical test will require men to complete a 1,500-metre race in 5 minutes 30 seconds, along with a high jump of metres, a 100-metre dash in 14 seconds, and a broad jump of metres. Women candidates must complete an 800-metre race in 3 minutes 45 seconds, along with a 1.10-metre high jump, a 3-metre broad jump, and a 100-metre dash in 17 seconds.
