SHIMLA: For the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh, the state people will be able to get VVIP 0001 registration number for their vehicles, a facility that was available only for ministers and other top government functionaries so far.
The state Transport Department is going to start e-auction for number 0001 from December 4. For this, the minimum bid will start at Rs 5 lakh and the bidder will have to deposit Rs 1.50 lakh as security. The registration for bids will take place from 10 am on December 4 to 5 pm on December 9.
There will be e-auction for HP63F-0001 (Regional Transport Office, Shimla); HP33G-0001 (Registration Authority, Mandi) and HP68C-0001 (Regional Transport Office, Dharamshala).
Under Rule 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, a permanent resident of Himachal who has proof of doing business in the state can apply for special registration number 0001 through e-auction of fancy number on the website of the Transport Department himachal.nic.in.
The minimum bid for the e-auction will start from Rs 5 lakh. Initial registration fee of Rs 2,000 is non-refundable and 30 per cent of the minimum bid of Rs 1.50 lakh will have to be deposited in advance. This amount will be refunded within five days to people other than the successful bidder. There will be no registration on Sunday (December 10). The bidding will start at 20 per cent of the minimum price of Rs 5 lakh, i.e. Rs 6 lakh, which is an increase of Rs 1 lakh.
After this, the bidders will be able to proceed with an increase of Rs 50,000. The result of e-auction will be declared on Sunday at 5 pm. The successful bidder will have to deposit the outstanding amount within three days by December 13. The number will be released only after this.
If the successful bidder is unable to take the number, then the 30 per cent amount deposited by him of Rs. 1.50 lakh will not be refunded and will be deposited in the government treasury. The number will not be given to the second highest bidder and the department will organise rebidding.
