The Odisha government has announced that the final death toll of the triple train accident that took place on Friday is 288.
The government further stated that out of 288, 205 bodies have been transferred to the next of kin. It further said that the process of identification of the remaining 83 bodies is underway.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel deployed in the rescue operation at the train crash site in Odisha had hallucinations of blood every time he saw water, NDRF DG Atul Karwal said. “Another said he has lost his urge to eat,” Karwal added. The force has initiated psychological counselling for its personnel upon their return from a rescue operation.
Meanwhile, after the Railway Board recommended a CBI probe into the Odisha train crash, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said that the probe should be done by those with technical expertise. “The government should answer why the tracks weren’t maintained,” she said. “The government is spinning theories and shifting the focus away from safety to theories like deliberate interference,” she added.
