Famous Hamirpur doctor fulfils wife’s last wish, donates property worth crores to government

Says no harm in paying pack to the source that helped the couple lead honourable life.

An issueless doctor from Nadaun in Hamirpur district who retired from government job after putting in 33 years of service has made a will donating his movable and immovable property worth crores to the Himachal government.

A resident of Sankar village in Jolsappar panchayat, 69-year-old Dr Rajinder Kanwar did so while fulfilling the last wish of his wife Krishna Kanwar, who had retired from the state Education Department and passed away last year.

The couple had decided that since they were childless, they should donate their entire property to the government as, after all, all their movable and immovable assets had been earned from the salaries they got from the government.

Dr Rajinder, who attends to hundreds of patients daily and is famous as ‘Kangu wala doctor’, says he sacrificed plum postings in his career for the sake of humanity and social service.’

Born to Gulab Devi and Dr Amar Singh at Dhaneta village on October 15, 1952, Dr Rajinder did his MBBS from the Indira Gandhi Medical College (then called Snowden Hospital) in Shimla in 1974.

He first posting as a physician was in Bhoranj in January 1977.
A revenue official said technically, will was a confidential legal document and is made public only after the passing away of the person concerned.
