Ex-principal of Solan govt school claims money for tank that was never built, booked

SOLAN: A retired principal of a government school in Arki tehsil of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district has been booked in a case of fraud, corruption and forgery for allegedly producing fake documents for the construction of a water tank.

An FIR (No. 04/2024) has been registered on August 30, 2024, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), against Om Prakash Sharma. He is the former Principal of Government Senior Secondary School at Balera in Arki.

According to the FIR, Om Prakash is accused of misusing his official position in conspiracy with contractor Devender Kumar and painter Vijay Kumar. The trio allegedly prepared fake documents related to the construction of a water tank at the school and submitted fraudulent receipts amounting to Rs 93,840. The fraudulent activities reportedly occurred during Sharma’s tenure as the school’s principal.

The case has been registered under IPC sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). Additionally, charges have been filed under sections 13(1)(a) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, highlighting the severity of the alleged crimes.

The registration of the FIR follows an inquiry that revealed the involvement of the accused in the preparation of fake documents and the submission of fraudulent receipts, causing financial losses to the public exchequer.
