Dharamshala: Kangra district election officer and Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa stated that under the voter awareness campaign, a new initiative is being undertaken to conduct electoral workshops at the booth level in every assembly constituency to educate voters.
He mentioned that literacy clubs for voters have been formed at the booth level in each assembly constituency, with booth-level officers working as nodal officers. Through these electoral workshops, booth-level officers will also ensure the registration of voters who have been left out from the voter lists, ensuring that no eligible citizen is deprived of voting.
Bairwa also informed that as per the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, all youth who turn 18 by April 1, 2024, can register their names in the voter list until May 4, 2024.
He emphasized that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are a celebration of democracy, aiming for 100% voter turnout, with special efforts being made to educate women voters in the Kangra district. Prior to this initiative, a campaign to create voter ID cards for those missed out voters has been initiated in the district, yielding positive results.
He further mentioned that through SWEEP, youth voters have been sensitized for voting, along with various initiatives such as marathons, sports competitions, etc., organized for voter awareness.
Additionally, various programs are being organized at the college level to educate voters, and information is being provided about the facilities available for differently-abled voters by the Election Commission, enabling all differently-abled individuals to exercise their voting rights.
