SOLAN: As people gear up to celebrate Diwali on November 12, the National Highway-5 that links Parwanoo with Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla via Solan is set to witness a surge in vehicular traffic, necessitating tightened measures for smooth flow of traffic.

To maintain order and facilitate a seamless traffic flow, 70 dedicated traffic police personnel will sacrifice their time with family to provide 24-hour services. The police personnel will be stationed to prevent any traffic snarls and ensure a hassle-free Diwali celebration for the residents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhisham Thakur, in an interview with TNR, emphasised the importance of these security measures. “Our objective is not to issue challans but to assist and ensure that proper arrangements are maintained during Diwali celebrations. The 70 traffic police personnel on duty are committed to keeping the traffic system smooth and avoiding any jams,” he said.

In addition to the visible police presence, plainclothes police personnel will discreetly patrol crowded areas to enhance security. The aim is to create an environment where residents can revel in the joyous occasion without concerns for safety or traffic disruptions, the DSP said, adding that other police personnel would look after the security arrangements.
