Rebel Congress MLA from Barsar Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, who has been disqualified from the Himachal Pradesh Assembly for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha election, has taken to social media to share his grievances.
In a lengthy post, he recounted his 42-year-long association with the Congress, highlighting the “sacrifices he made for its growth and development”.
Lakhanpal reminisced about his humble beginnings, stating that he devoted himself to the Congress’ cause from the grassroots level. He recounted selling his land to initiate the Seva Dal, illustrating his deep commitment to the party’s ideals.
Expressing his disillusionment, Lakhanpal narrated instances where he felt neglected and unheard by the party leadership. “Despite my dedicated service, I felt overlooked and marginalised, particularly in matters concerning the welfare of his constituents and party workers,” he said.
He lamented the lack of responsiveness from the party leadership, alleging that his concerns and those of his supporters were consistently ignored. Lakhanpal emphasised his efforts to advocate for the representation of local leaders in decision-making processes, highlighting his insistence on nominating a candidate from the state for the Rajya Sabha.
Further, he criticised the party’s high command for its detachment from ground realities, accusing them of being out of touch with the grassroots movements and concerns of the common people.
In a tone reflecting both disappointment and determination, Lakhanpal reaffirmed his commitment to his constituency and vowed to continue fighting for its interests. Despite feeling disheartened by his expulsion from the party, he expressed solidarity with his supporters and hinted at formulating future strategies collectively.
Lakhanpal is among the six Congress rebels who have been disqualified by the Speaker from the Vidhan Sabha for cross-voting in favour of BJP nominee Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha election, leading to the defeat of party’s official candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
