The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium in Dharamshala has undergone significant improvements, addressing criticisms of its poor outfield conditions during the ICC Cricket World Cup matches last year. The lush green outfield now greets visitors, marking a notable transformation.
HPCA officials have confirmed that the issues highlighted during the World Cup regarding the outfield have been effectively resolved. The stadium is now set to host an upcoming test match between India and England in March.
To enhance the outfield’s quality, winter grass (ryegrass) has been grown, particularly suitable for colder climates. This proactive measure aims to ensure optimal playing conditions for the forthcoming test match.
During the World Cup, criticisms arose due to patchy outfield conditions attributed to prolonged seasonal rainfall and insufficient maintenance time, leading to the emergence of fungus in certain areas. England’s Jos Buttler was among those who criticized Dharamshala’s outfield.
However, with proactive measures taken to rectify the issues, the stadium is now fully prepared to provide an excellent playing surface for the much-anticipated India vs. England test match.
