DGP-Businessman Controversy: HC Seek Status Report from Police by November 16

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court had sought a status report from the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Shimla and Kangra in response to the complaint filed by businessman Nishant Sharma. The court had directed ASP Shimla and ASP Kangra to submit the status report by November 16.

Nishant Sharma had filed complaints against DGP Sanjay Kundu, accusing him of continuously pressuring him to visit the Shimla office. Despite not being personally acquainted with the DGP, Sharma claimed to have received persistent phone calls from the DGP’s office in Shimla, urging him to visit.

Sharma further alleged a life-threatening attack shortly after he communicated with the DGP’s office. He issued a notice to ASP Shimla, requesting the initiation of a case against the DGP.

In a prior instance, Sharma had written a letter to ASP Kangra, urging the initiation of a case related to an incident. However, according to Sharma, the police did not register any case based on his complaint. In contrast, Shimla Police registered a case against him at the Chhota Shimla police station based on the DGP’s complaint.

Expressing concern for the safety of himself and his family, Nishant Sharma also requested police protection. As of now, neither Shimla nor Kangra Police have registered a case in response to his complaints.

The state government initiated an inquiry into Nishant Sharma’s complaint, directing Shimla Police to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the High Court had instructed ASP Shimla and ASP Kangra to submit a status report on the case by November 16.
