Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti protests across Himachal over Sanjauli mosque row

Shimla: The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti staged a massive demonstration at the CTO Chowk in Shimla on Saturday, demanding a ban on the construction of alleged illegal mosques and tombs in Himachal Pradesh.
The protests, which were held in district headquarters across the state, saw a significant turnout, prompting heightened security measures from the district police and intelligence agencies.
In Shimla, a large crowd gathered at CTO Chowk, raising slogans and submitting memorandums to the administration, pressing for the abolition of the Waqf Board and immediate action against what they claim are illegal religious structures. Intelligence agencies are on high alert, and tight security arrangements have been made, particularly near sensitive locations.
Security tightened in Mandi, other districts
In Mandi, a substantial police force was deployed near a local mosque. Hindu organisations gathered at Seri Chanani complex, raising slogans of “Hindu Ekta Zindabad” and calling for unity in protecting their culture and civilisation.
The protesters then held a rally through the city streets, emphasising the need for Hindus to remain vigilant in safeguarding their heritage.
The event included a “Nagar Parikrama” (city march), led by the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti activists, with bhajans and kirtans resonating through the city and surrounding streets.
Memorandum submitted to admn
The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti also submitted memorandums to the administration demanding the dissolution of the Waqf Board and the halt of illegal migration into the state. In addition to their core demands, the samiti called for the withdrawal of FIRs registered against their supporters during earlier protests, particularly those related to the Sanjauli mosque controversy.
The samiti urged the government to pass a resolution in the gram sabhas scheduled for October 2, calling for the verification of documents of people moving into local panchayats from outside the state. In Kunihar, a regional Hindu organisation aligned with the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti also demonstrated, calling for the registration of migrants. Protests were held in Hamirpur too.
