Deputy CM Agnihotri gets massive response in Seraj, if Congress targeting ex-CM Jai Ram’s constituency?
MANDI: Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri received an overwhelming response during his visit to Mandi district’s Seraj Assembly constituency, the home turf of former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur.
Agnihotri didn’t hold back in his criticism, accusing Thakur of “reaping the harvest of his own actions” from his time in power.
Addressing a large gathering in Thunag, Agnihotri pointedly stated that Thakur had forgotten the democratic principle that governments change. “Jai Ram was so intoxicated with power that he forgot this basic reality,” said Agnihotri, drawing applause from the crowd.
Reflecting on his own experience as Leader of the Opposition under the BJP regime, Agnihotri said he was deprived of several privileges by the Jai Ram-led government. “Now, Jai Ram is complaining about being denied certain facilities, but this is what he did to me when he was in power. He is simply reaping what he sowed,” said the Deputy CM.
Says no personal enmity, it’s political rivalry
Clearing the air on any personal grudges, Agnihotri emphasised that his differences with Jai Ram Thakur were strictly political. “He is my political opponent, not my personal enemy,” Agnihotri clarified. He credited the Congress for supporting him during his time in opposition, which he said ultimately led to the BJP’s downfall.
Himachali folk artistes to represent state globally
During his visit, Agnihotri presided over the closing ceremony of the ‘Seraj Talent and Tourism Festival’ in Janjehli. He spoke about promoting Himachali culture, revealing plans to send local folk artistes abroad for cultural exchange programmes. “Himachal’s rich culture, from the dhatu and shawl to the Himachali cap, will now be showcased on international stages,” said Agnihotri.
He also announced that in major state fairs, 50 per cent of the cultural budget would be allocated to local artistes. “We are dedicated to promoting Himachali culture, and our artists will play a central role in our efforts,” he added.
Development boost for Seraj
The Deputy CM’s visit wasn’t just about politics. He announced several development projects for Seraj, including the Rs 4.41 crore Halin and Balendha lift irrigation schemes, which aim to benefit the Lambathach gram panchayat. He also inaugurated flood control works for Jwalan Khad and Bagsiad Nala, valued at Rs 3.24 crore.
The locals welcomed these development initiatives, viewing Agnihotri’s visit as a signal of the Congress government’s focus on Jai Ram Thakur’s constituency.
