MANDI: The driver of a Volvo bus was killed while a few passengers suffered minor injuries in an accident involving the vehicle and a truck loaded with pipes in the wee hours of Friday (February 2, 2024) in Mandi district’s Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh.
According to information, the private Volvo bus rammed the Canter truck (RJ02G-B5374) from the rear, leading to critical injuries to the driver and minor injuries to a few passengers. The accident happened on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. On receiving information about the accident, the Sundernagar police reached the spot. The impact of the collision was so severe that the truck was forcefully propelled from its lane to the opposite lane with a loud crash. The Canter driver narrowly escaped and sustained minor injuries.
The critically injured driver of the bus, bearing registration number DD01B-9299, was rushed to Ner Chowk Medical College in Mandi where he was declared brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Rup Singh, son of Ami Chand, a resident of House Number 197 in Ward Number 9 of New Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Kullu. Following inquest proceedings, the body was handed over to the next of kin. A case has been registered at the Sundernagar police station and the circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated.
