Death toll rises to 25 in Nyugalseri landslide

30 goats killed as lightning strikes them in Kinnaur dist village

Rescue operations at the site of the Nyugalseri landslide continue even as two more bodies were recovered on Monday, taking the death toll to 25.

The bodies of both victims were taken to Bhavnagar hospital for identification as they were in an unrecognizable condition.

Five still missing

Rescue personnel said that a search was on for five people who were missing. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Suryavanshi Nanspo from Nichar, Mehar Chand Tikri from Nirmand, Santosh Kumari Sungra from Kinnaur, Jwala Devi Bari from Nichar, and Balram Kumar from Mannan were missing.

Families losing hope

Families of those missing for over 115 hours are now gradually losing hope after waiting for almost six days at the disaster spot for their loved ones.

Rescue operations here were hit on account of thick debris and shooting stones. Meanwhile, those injured in the landslide have been discharged from hospitals.

13 people had been rescued to safety during the operations.

Lightning kills 30 goats

Lightning struck the tribal belt, Taranda Kanda in the Kinnaur district, killing 30 goats belonging to a farmer on Sunday morning.

According to the SDMA, the village patwari has been sent to the spot of the accident to take stock of the situation.
