Five people have been confirmed dead in the spurious liquor case in Sundernagar and Kangu. While three died in Slapad, a sub-division of Sundarnagar, two more were reported dead in Kangu.
One of them from Kangu died while ungergoing treatment. Two others are reported to be critical. Mandi Superintendent of Police, Shalini Agnihotri took stock of the situation.
The liquor contract of a dealer has also been sealed by Excise department personnel and Sundernagar police. Liquor samples have also been taken for examination.
Empty liquor boxes have been recovered by the police in a ditch on NH-21 and investigation in on. The network of illegal liquor business is spread across the state and mainly covers Slapad, Kangu, Harabagh, Jandol, Pung, Mahadev, Dhanotu Bhor Naulakka Dador to Kullu Manali in Sundernagar, Mandi district.
The liquor is said to be procured from other states and supplied via Dhabas adjacent to the National Highway.
