Death Strikes Before Bus: Man Waiting at Highway Dies from Falling Stone

Kullu/Mandi: In a tragic incident on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, a young man lost his life after a stone fell from a hillside while he was waiting for a bus near the Hanogi Bridge in the Aut area. The deceased has been preliminarily identified as a 25-year-old man known locally as ‘Shamshani.’

According to initial reports, the victim had been living alone near the cremation ground in Kullu since childhood, which led locals to refer to him as ‘Shamshani.’ His real name and address are yet to be confirmed by the police.

The incident occurred when the man, who had reportedly come to Hanogi with a friend, was waiting for a bus to return to Kullu. Without warning, a stone dislodged from the hillside, striking him directly on the head. The critically injured man was immediately rushed to Nagwain Hospital and later referred to Kullu, where doctors unfortunately declared him dead on arrival.

Police are currently conducting an autopsy, and SP Mandi, Sakshi Verma, has confirmed the incident. Authorities are also working to gather more information about the young man’s background.

*Traffic Disruption on National Highway*

In a related development, traffic on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway remains partially disrupted near Khotinalla due to an overturned truck. The vehicle has been moved to one side of the road, allowing only one-way traffic to pass.

SP Mandi, Sakshi Verma, stated that police personnel have been deployed at the site to manage the flow of vehicles and prevent traffic congestion. Efforts to completely remove the truck from the highway are ongoing.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of managing road safety in the region, where landslides and falling debris pose constant risks to travelers. Authorities are urging caution and advising travelers to stay updated on road conditions during the monsoon season.
