PANDOH: KMC Company, a private firm tasked with the construction of the Chandigarh-Manali four-lane national highway from Nagchala to Pandoh in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, appears to have abandoned the road stretch passing through Jagar panchayat.
All culverts along the stretch are clogged, causing water and debris to flow onto the road and into homes, shops and fields even with slight rainfall. The company has been neglecting this critical issue for long.
The situation has deteriorated to the point where the culverts are so filled with dirt that it’s hard to discern their presence. Additionally, a culvert in Basta village has been blocked since a long period, leading to water flowing onto the road and causing significant inconvenience. Despite numerous written complaints from the Jagar panchayat representatives, the company management has remained unresponsive.
Panchayat pradhan Bhushan Kumar expressed frustration over the lack of action and reported that company officials had stopped answering calls related to these grievances, including those from elected representatives.
KMC Company’s apathetic attitude has left the panchayat residents exasperated and they are now contemplating public protests against the company if immediate steps are not taken to clear the culverts. They have also appealed to the district administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for stringent action against the company.
In response to these concerns, KMC Company’s project manager Raj Shekhar acknowledged the issue and said that remedial actions were underway.
