Outgoing CM Jai Ram Thakur may be having the last laugh yet
The Newz Radar
The victory and loss of the candidates from BJP and Congress in 10 Assembly seats in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh may have affected the fortunes of two leaders in a diametrically opposite way.
If outgoing Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has reasons to feel happy, even though BJP lost in the state because in his home district of Mandi nine out of the 10 party candidates emerged victorious.
However, this thumping victory of the BJP in Mandi district may prove to be disastrous for Congress state president and Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Pratibha Singh.
Caught in a tussle for the post of Chief Minister, for which she had thrown her hat in the ring, with veteran Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, she would have a tough time explaining why only one Congress candidate from her LS seat won in the Assembly elections.
Her bete noire Sukhu is definitely going to exploit this factor to his advantage while he lobbies hard for the post of Chief Minister. It is reported that he has already claimed the support of 21 Congress MLAs.
Pratibha Singh had caused considerable embarrassment for the outgoing CM of BJP, Jai Ram Thakur when she had won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in the bye-elections. Following her win as well as the victory of some Congress candidates in Assembly bye-elections at the same time, the BJP did get the indications that the winds are already turning.
However, at present Jai Ram Thakur may be having the last laugh after he took sweet revenge by ensuring the victory of nine out of 10 candidates in the Mandi district. To add to his satisfaction, Jai Ram Thakur may have also indirectly dealt a deathly blow on the fortunes of Pratibha Singh in her race to become the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
