The political drama in Himachal Pradesh hangs in the balance as all eyes are set on the Supreme Court for a crucial hearing scheduled for Wednesday on a plea by six rebel Congress MLAs challenging their disqualification. The outcome of the hearing is poised to redefine the strategies of both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in the state.
The anticipated decision from the Supreme Court holds the key to the next course of action for political stakeholders in Himachal Pradesh. Should the ruling favour the MLAs under scrutiny, both the BJP and Congress will find themselves compelled to recalibrate their political maneuvers. Conversely, an adverse ruling will only serve to intensify the prevailing uncertainty.
In a significant development, two BJP MLAs, Hans Raj and Vinod Kumar, made their way to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s official residence Oak Over on Tuesday. The closed-door meeting, lasting approximately one and a half hours, sparked speculations across political circles. Sources suggest that the meeting transpired following the issuance of notices under the Privilege Act against the two MLAs.
While details of the conversation remain undisclosed, both MLAs refrained from commenting on the nature or outcomes of the meeting, leaving room for speculation and interpretation within the political spectrum. The meeting’s significance reverberates amidst the backdrop of recent political upheaval during the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh. Notably, six Congress MLAs crossed party lines to support the BJP during the election, signalling shifts and fractures within the political landscape of the state.
In an unexpected turn, BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and national vice-president Saudan Singh were compelled to cancel their flight to Delhi for the parliamentary board meeting scheduled after receiving the directive from Delhi. The development underscores the party’s focus on internal party matters, possibly influenced by the impending Supreme Court hearing regarding the six Congress rebels.
