Coromandel Express train, which met with an accident at Bahanaga Bazar station on Friday, was going at full speed as it wasn’t supposed to stop at the station, a news agency reported quoting government sources.
The impact was such that its 21 coaches derailed with its 3 coaches infringing on another line. Simultaneously, Yeswanthpur-Howrah Express was passing through and colliding.
Meanwhile, IAS officer Awanish Sharan shared a video showing several people waiting in a long line to donate blood after a triple train collision in Odisha on Friday. “People in Balasore since night to donate blood for Train accident victims. Big thanks to them,” he wrote. At least 261 people have died in the incident.
Reacting to the train mishap in Odisha, West Bengal CM and former Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee called it the “biggest railway accident of the 21st century”. She further said, “There was no anti-collision device on the train, as far as I know. Had the device been on the train, this would not have happened…The dead can’t be brought back.”
Telangana minister KT Rama Rao called the Odisha train mishap “horrific” and expressed his “heartfelt condolences” to the victims. He added, “What happened to the anti-collision devices? This is indeed a tragedy of unheard proportions that should have never happened.” According to reports, over 260 people have died and nearly 900 have sustained injuries in the accident.
