Dissatisfied with health minister’s reply on Corona cases
Shimla | TNR
Proceedings of the monsoon session of the Himachal Assembly were halted twice during the session on Tuesday after the Opposition Congress party staged a walkout.
Stating that the health minister was not responding to the points raised by the Opposition, Congress MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal prompted the first walk-out.
Congress raises slogans
Congress also raised slogans on the floor of the House before this. CPM MLA Rakesh Sinha also joined them in the walk-out.
The Opposition staged a second walk-out as ruling MLA Jeet Ram Katwal was speaking on the policies formulated for the elderly, women, physically challenged, and other weaker sections, under Article 130.
Ruling party expresses displeasure
The ruling party expressed displeasure at Congress MLA Jagat Singh’s comment on the RSS and Queen Victoria.
Heated arguments on both sides marked his comments with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur pointing out that such comments were an insult to democracy and comments such as those made about the RSS should not be made when the House was in session.
Stating that even top Congress leaders respected the RSS, Thakur said the Opposition walk-outs were not in good taste. Meanwhile, the Speaker pointed out that these comments were actually off the record.
The Chief Minister added that the Opposition was not prepared to hear out the health minister’s response.
His government had done a remarkable during the pandemic by providing hospitals with enough beds and oxygen, he said.
He taunted the Opposition by pointing out that in the 50 years of Congress rule, they had provided only 50 ventilators whereas now the numbers stand at 800.
