Despite heavy rains, the Congress party staged a protest against attacks on dalits on Tuesday. They demonstrated on the Ridge in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Alleging that the attacks on dalits had the full support and protection of the government, Congress state party president Kuldeep Singh Rathore said that these attacks were a matter of great concern.
Past incidents highlighted
He pointed out that only a few days back, senior Congress leader and former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Jagjivan Pal was attacked by some people in power in the presence of the police, but the government had not bothered to take any action against the culprits.
Rathore said that in another incident, Congress worker and former Chief Paras Ram and his wife were attacked in Kullu.
Paras Ram who was seriously injured died, while his wife is still undergoing treatment at Ner Chowk Medical College.
Rathore asserted that the Congress would not tolerate injustice against anyone in the state and would stand with the people in the fight against injustice.
Memorandum submitted
He added that a memorandum has been submitted to the Governor seeking an inquiry into the attack on the dalit couple in Kullu. The memorandum also demanded strict action against the culprits.
