Delhi: In a significant development, Kewal Singh Pathania, Congress MLA from Shahpur, met with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Delhi today. The focal point of their discussion was the distressing situation of 24-year-old Pawna, a resident of Kutharna in Pathania’s constituency. Pawna had ventured to Dubai on 16th December, 2023, seeking employment as domestic help through an agent based in Chandigarh.
Pathania, prompted by concerns raised by acquaintances of the girl, presented a letter to the Chief Minister, urging immediate intervention in the matter. Hailing from an economically disadvantaged family, Pawna had communicated with her brother via video call upon departing from Delhi on the 16th. However, all communication ceased thereafter, leaving her family anxious about her whereabouts.
The family received a voice message last night from an unknown number in Oman, wherein Pawna disclosed distressing details. She reported being taken to Oman along with 7-8 other girls, expressing concerns for their safety. According to the message, her passport and mobile had been confiscated by unidentified individuals.
Fearing for Pawna’s safety, her brother filed a complaint with the police in Kangra district, alleging that she had been deceived by the agent, putting her life in jeopardy.
Pathania briefed the Chief Minister on the entire situation, who assured swift action. Chief Minister Sukhu committed to addressing the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs and directed the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, to urgently investigate the matter.
