Congress Meet for LS Elections: Three Ministers Absent, Sudhir Remains Undecided

Shimla: In wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party convened a crucial meeting in Shimla on Tuesday to deliberate on election preparations.

The meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and party State President Pratibha Singh, saw the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, cabinet ministers, and representatives from the government and the organization.

However, Cabinet Ministers Rohit Thakur, Jagat Singh Negi, and Harsh Vardhan were notably absent from the gathering. It is reported that these ministers did not attend due to their engagements related to the visit of the Legislative Assembly’s Local Undertakings Committee to Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Additionally, legislators Rajender Rana, Harish Janartha, Devender Bhatti, and Ravi Thakur were also not part of the meeting due to their involvement in the committee’s tour. Meanwhile, discussions continue regarding the absence of legislator Sudhir Sharma from the meeting in Dharamshala.

Initiatives to Reach the Masses

CM Sukhu emphasized the need for effective strategies to communicate the government’s initiatives and achievements to the public. The party and government jointly called the meeting to ensure synchronization in their approach.

He stated that the government is launching a program to take its works to the doorsteps of the villagers, fostering better communication between the government and the people.

He highlighted key achievements, including the reinstatement of the old pension, assistance to thousands affected by disasters, and a special package for homeless individuals. The meeting extensively discussed methods to bridge the gap between the government’s efforts and public awareness.

Announcement of Candidates Soon

Regarding the announcement of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister clarified that there is still considerable time before the elections. He mentioned that the declaration of candidates’ names would take place one and a half months before the elections.

Bharat Jodo Yatra: Not a Political Expedition

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu responded to questions about the “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, stating that it is being perceived as politically motivated, although it is not a political expedition.

He mentioned that Rahul Gandhi initiated the journey after realizing the injustices faced by the youth in the country, such as unemployment and soaring inflation. The Chief Minister defended the journey, citing significant incidents like the recent violence in Manipur.
