Congress forms ‘war room’ for Himachal elections under working president Awasthy, Agnihotri aide Maheshwar Chauhan made co-chairman

The Congress high command has appointed its Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthy, who is also the working president of the party’s Himachal Pradesh unit, as the chairman of the “war room” set up for the Lok Sabha poll and the Assembly byelections in the state.
While Awasthy will be the war room’s chairman, Maheshwar Chauhan will be its co-chairman, Hari Krishan Himral its vice-chairman and Capt SK Sehgal (retd) its convener.
The appointment letter has been issued by former Union Minister and All India Congress Committee’s Himachal in-charge Rajeev Shukla. The state war room would work in coordination with Gokul Butail, who is the vice-chairman of the Congress’ national war room.
Maheshwar Chauhan is presently the vice-president of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee and is a close aide of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. Belonging to Jubbal in Shimla district, he was among those in the race for the 2022 Assembly poll ticket from Shimla-Urban seat.
The Congress has made eight appointments for the war room coordination: Devinder Bushehri, Yashpal, Tanial, Amit Saini, Monita Chauhan, Satyajeet Negi, Ripna Kailsaik, Vineeta Verma and Aarti Nirmohi. The legal coordination unit members are Prashant Sharma, Lal Singh Mehta, Vinay Mehta, Parul Negi, Dhananjay Sharma and Varun Rana.
