A high-level team from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has arrived in Shimla to analyse and understand the reasons behind the party’s defeat in all four Lok Sabha seats of Himachal Pradesh in the recent elections.
The two-member committee, comprising former MP PL Punia and MP Rajni Patil, has embarked on an intensive review process, meeting with various party leaders and stakeholders. The committee began its day with a meeting of the coordination committee, attended by key figures, including Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Congress state president Pratibha Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and senior leaders Kaul Singh Thakur and Ramlal Thakur.
The review process started with individual meetings with the party candidate from the Mandi parliamentary constituency. Following this, the committee will engage with state ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) and AICC members from Mandi. This will be succeeded by discussions with Congress MLAs, Assembly candidates and district presidents from Mandi district.
Constituency-wise consultations
In the afternoon, the focus will shift to the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. From 3 pm to 5 pm, the committee will hold a series of meetings, starting with the party candidate and followed by interactions with ministers, CPS and AICC members. The discussions will conclude with meetings with all Congress MLAs, Assembly candidates and district presidents from Hamirpur.
On July 16, the committee’s schedule includes meetings with representatives from the Kangra Lok Sabha constituency, beginning at 10 am. The agenda includes interactions with the party candidate, ministers, CPS members and all Congress MLAs from Kangra, followed by a session with Assembly candidates and district heads.
Report to be submitted to Kharge
Rajni Patil emphasised the importance of these consultations, stating that the committee will compile insights and opinions from all the meetings over the two days. The findings will be compiled into a comprehensive report, which will be submitted to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. Patil, who also oversees party affairs in Uttarakhand and Delhi, mentioned that she has already conducted a review meeting in Delhi and will proceed to Uttarakhand after the Shimla consultations.
The outcome of these discussions and the subsequent report are eagerly anticipated, as they will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future strategies and addressing the challenges faced in the recent elections.
