Senior Congress leader Tajinder Singh Bittu, who belongs to Jalandhar and is the party’s co-in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Congress affairs, is expected to join the BJP on Saturday (April 20, 2024).
Sources say that the joining ceremony will take place in Delhi, though Bittu has not made any statement on the matter yet.
Bittu has submitted his resignation to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. In a letter written to Kharge, Bittu wrote that “he was resigning from the primary membership of the Congress as well as the co-in-charge of Himachal Congress affairs”. He has been associated with the Congress party for several years and wields considerable influence in Punjab.
He has also been a member of the All India Congress Committee, known for his proximity to the Gandhi family. Bittu is learnt to have held meetings with top BJP leaders over the past few days. He is scheduled to meet Home Minister Amit Shah today, along with other prominent leaders from Punjab and Himachal.
