Himachal’s premium medical institute IGMC, Shimla, has added another feather to its cap. IGMC neuro-surgery department has successfully conducted a brain tumor surgery without administering general anaesthesia to the patient. A video released by the hospital showed the doctor interacting with the patient. The video also showed the patient responding appropriately to the doctor’s questions.
Doctor explains
Dr Janak Raj, MS, Neuro surgeon at IGMC, Shimla. said that the tumor was on the left side of the patient’s brain and there was a fear of the left arm and leg of the patient being paralysed. There was also a fear of paralysis of the tongue. Hence, the patient had to be operated without sedation.
Patient talked to doctors during surgery
The patient from Theog continuously spoke to the doctors until the operation ended. He was also able to move his limbs as per the doctor’s instructions. He had been admitted to the IGMC since July. The patient is now said to be out of danger and recovering well.
