Dharamshala: A significant uproar unfolded in the assembly today regarding Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu’s alleged fake degrees and comments made by a BJP legislator.

The opposition legislators gathered outside the assembly in the morning, symbolically burning their degrees to protest unemployment.

After the question hour concluded, Chief Minister Sukkhu declared in the assembly that the burnt degrees were indeed fake, emphasizing that BJP leader Jairam Thakur was never a student at Himachal Pradesh University.

He further highlighted that even the Chancellor’s signature was present on these dubious certificates, raising concerns about the university’s credibility.

Miffed by the chief minister’s comments, BJP legislators stood up in the assembly, engaging in a vocal protest. Despite the Speaker’s repeated attempts to restore order, the opposition remained disruptive, with slogans resonating through the assembly hall.

In response, BJP legislator Randheer Sharma asserted that symbolic protests were essential to remind the government of its unemployment guarantees. Sharma clarified that their intent was not to disrespect the assembly but to draw attention to the government’s unfulfilled promises.

The Chief Minister, in turn, clarified that Vipin Parmar was an alumnus of Himachal Pradesh University, unlike Jairam Thakur. He underscored that his government had initiated more recruitments than the previous BJP administration.

However, this did not quell the opposition, and BJP legislator Reena Kashyap insisted on an apology from the Chief Minister for his comments.

The assembly session faced repeated disruptions, leading the Speaker to adjourn proceedings temporarily for the lunch break. Upon resumption, tempers remained high, and the Speaker warned of expunging any objectionable comments.

The day’s events highlighted the tense political climate, raising questions about decorum and discourse within the assembly.
