Mandi: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reinforced his administration’s dedication to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027 and a prosperous state by 2032.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Chief Minister’s office in Dehra, Sukhu stressed that his government’s mandate was to create meaningful change, not to cater to individual interests.
“We are here to bring transformation for the people,” he stated, acknowledging that bold decisions, though sometimes unpopular among MLAs and ministers, were essential for the state’s progress.
“Tough decisions can provoke discontent,” Sukhu admitted, “but when made in the public interest, even minor controversies are worthwhile.”
He reiterated that prioritising the long-term welfare of Himachal Pradesh is the cornerstone of his administration’s policies.
Addressing issues of Pong Dam oustees
The Chief Minister also pledged to tackle the hardships of families displaced by the Pong Dam project who have resided on government land for over 40 years.
He assured that his government is working on a sustainable solution to improve their living conditions and address their longstanding demands.
Outlining his vision to make Kangra a tourism capital, Sukhu announced several key projects.
The government has allocated Rs 4.5 crore for a water scheme at the Bankhandi zoo, part of a broader tourism plan for the area.
A high-end hotel is planned for Dehra, with funding approval expected soon, while Rs 100 crore tourism project will further enhance Dehra’s appeal as a destination.
In a strategic collaboration with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, CM Sukhu disclosed plans to upgrade the Mubarikpur-Ranital road into a four-lane highway, with consultancy services already underway.
Additionally, a bridge project worth Rs 66 crore has been sanctioned for Jawali constituency, boosting connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
Budget reforms and resolving stalled projects
Addressing budget reforms, Sukhu said his government was adopting a more inclusive approach by involving ministers in the planning stages.
The Chief Minister revealed that his administration is conducting a review to complete numerous unfinished projects left by the previous government, emphasising a commitment to better governance and quality service delivery for the state’s 7.5 million residents.
“Strengthening Himachal Pradesh’s infrastructure, tourism, and governance are our top priorities,” Sukhu concluded, expressing optimism that the administration’s progressive decisions will lay a strong foundation for the state’s future.
